1996 prostar cuts out at 2000rmp

Hello, hope someone has some insights to our problem. We purchased a 1996 prostar 205 that has a new indmar 350. It has been running great, yesterday it suddenly started to surge and cut out at 2000 rpm. There are no warning lights on, we tried to short it to get the codes-there are no codes. We can see the injectors spraying fuel until 2000 rpm and they stop, and it surges and goes into limp mode. When you turn the key on are the warning lights suppose to illuminate? I'm not sure ours work at all. Any ideas? Fuel pump seems to be working, replaced temp sensor, it is not over heating. Thanks

Hello all, my brother posted the above note yesterday. The limp mode is engaging but we are not sure why. What should the temperature sensor read with a DMM? Ours and the one I purchased both read open at ambient temperature. Any ideas? Thanks

limp mode

don't know what your problem is but don't feel alone. I have a 1995 pro star 190 LT1 and I have the same problem. Still working on fixing problem, trying a new map sensor this week at Lake Powell. Wish me luck and I'll let you know what happens

Mark, Did you try your MAP sensor yet? We tried the boat and it is now cutting out at ~3000 rpms, and running rough at times at 2000-2200 rpms. The boat is stored on a lift and 2 weeks ago, it would cut the injectors at 2200 rpm. No codes are being stored. I am thinking TPS sensor or possibly bad grounds.

As a follow-up: the boat was put in diagnostic mode and no codes were stored. After doing some additional troubleshooting, it appears that the TPS is bad. I sourced a new one from Napa and it tests good with a multimeter. I will not get a chance to try it out until next weekend, but I believe that is the source of our problems, but it does not explain why codes 21 and 22 relating to the TPS were not stored.

JM, same problem. Where should I look for to find the TPS sensor?

It is located underneath the spark arrestor and is mounted on the end of the shaft for the butterfly valves. It will look similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Delphi-SS10462...786692&sr=8-38
