Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader

I have a granddaughter that is struggling with math, went out to help her tonight with math homework, ok stay with me here.
The poser was this...
Stormy Daniels has a box she need to build that is 15”high by 18” long with no lid. How much wood does she need? I am very curious what everyone answers might be, but this was the problem.

I finally got the answer but just would love to know how everyone would solve this.
Chine in please and thank you.

Can’t believe math these days

What is the 3rd dimension? If it is 15 wide by 18 deep, for example, what is the depth? I must be missing something

I’m sorry it is a rectangle 18” by 15” 15” tall wiith a bottom and no lid. Sorry for the confusion, after I finally figured it out I needed a stiff bourbon. It was a bear figuring out what the teacher wanted. Good luck

it would be 3 pieces 18" long plus two 15" square ends... but the real answer is depends on what lumber or plywood is available.

- three pieces that are 18" long x 15" wide for the sides and the bottom.
- two pieces that are 15" x 15" square for the ends

Total is 84" x 15" which works out to 1260 sq in. or 8.75 sq ft.

Is this a real math problem or a joke about "box" and "wood"?

I am really waiting for the "punch line" with Stormy Daniels. There just has to be one!

This is the correct answer. I was confused and it was not stated what unit of measure for the wood he wanted. It was my thought it was a poorly worded problem. And yes it was a real problem I just embellished it with the Stormy Daniels reference.
