So because something is expensive up front you can't allow the cost of running it impact your decision between to choices? That is pants on head idiotic.

Alan do you have gallons/hour for a 6.2 in one of your boats?

I have a X24 with a 6.2 that I should have some data on soon. I also need to do more prop testing on this boat.

All of this technical data is making me feel pretty inadequate. All I know is that when the fuel guage is near E, I put gas in it. My 7.4 in a 13' X Star is awesome!

Hi,I just sold my 2018 x23 with the 7.4 and was very happy with the power ... takes about 6.5 gal an hour for surfing. I have put 170 hours on it this summer without any issues .I order an x 24 but was thinking just go with the 6.2 since I think I had too much power in the x 23 just for surfing ... it is a big $$$option for the 7.4 but for the fuel ,at the end of the day if I put 20$ less or more , I don t really care . I am afraid to make a mistake not going with the 7.4 again!!!

This thread prompted me to track usage on my '14 X-star w/7.4

Ran the boat from 388 -to- 401hrs. Filled her up twice and tracked 6.6 & 6.8GPH while doing 50/50 Wake & Surf.

For guys with the 7.4 where is the strainer and is it a PITA to clean it out?

The 6.2 gdi strainer is about 75% smaller than the 5.7 and you have to stand on your head to get to it.
