1976 S/S 351 Ford Water Pump Impeller?

Hi all,

Putting a new to me '76 Stars in the water soon. Going through things, most everything checks out.

I am sure that it ought to have a water pump impeller. Pump is a straight through Sherwood with 1-1/4" hose connections.

I bought Sherwood minor rebuild kit 23796, which is the kit for an L80 which my pump looks like. The impeller that came looks much too deep for the pump I have.

Any ideas? I hate to crack open a working pump without parts.

A picture would help somebody identify the pump you have. The folks at SKIDIM.com would be able to help you order the right impeller.

What are you trying to do? Change the impeller? If the impeller is the wrong size, it won't work. The good news is that it's not a big project to get into. You'll probably have to loosen the belt and unscrew a couple of bolts and you,re in. If you find out that you don't have the proper parts, you can seal it back up. It should take you less then 7 minutes to fihen out.

When I changed mine this year, the threads stripped out on the housing. I have to tap new threads before I can get back on the water. Good thing it's 34 and windy as h3ll.

I dont even think you have to loosen the belt, should just be 3 screws I think.

if you can get the part number off of the impeller, the folks at skidim will see that you get the correct replacement.

True enough... litterally not more than 30 though... and that includes getting a beer during.

Welcome to TT...

HOW ABOUT A PIC OF THE BOAT

I changed the impeller in my '76 in about an hour. It's not that it's particularly difficult, but it's dang tight down there and I'm not a contortionist. I had to crack mine open to figure out which one to get. When I gave the boat/engine info to Jim, I got the wrong part.
