If you go with 3M marine products you should be able to go from 1000 grit, to 3M marine rubbing compound, to 3M finesse it (polish), to wax. I don't believe 3m offers both a heavy and a minor compound as you describe. I imagine the automotive stuff does the trick if you go that route.

Whether or not it is too much depends on how bad your oxidation is. You can always try just the rubbing compound and if it doesn't seem to take care of it, break out the sandpaper.

I think if I had the boat in Vermont, I'd keep the rainbow graphics off of it.

HaHa...The Rainbows were removed by the previous owner, I added a few stars instead. Cheep and subtle

The graphic on the fender looks like and 86 model. If that is the case, your boat is an 86, Jim at Baws makes the 86 graphics.

I have an 86 and went over the whole topside and the sides with a heavy cut, then polish, then follow with wax...looks great

you can get more aggressive with gelcoat than automotive clears or single stage paints. but you still have to be careful around the edges!

He knows it's an 86 rainbow warrior, and I don't think he wants the rainbows, and I don't know if I blame him. I'm all about keeping it real....but rainbows? What were they thinking? There is a reason they only had that scheme for 1 year.

I like the 86 decals.
