So a new noise ordinance was just adopted by the county ...

It prohibits "a boater from operating an amplified sound system at a volume where it could be heard from 200 feet away." This was passed unanimously by the Bonner County Idaho commissioners. This will be enforced on Priest Lake (my home lake), most of Lake Pend Oreille and the Pend Oreille River among others. Browsing the local Facebook comment section it sounds like now that the originators of this ordinance have tasted success they are going after surf boats. I read a comment about the new surf boats putting out "8' tall wakes". To an extent I get where they're coming from on the noise side of things. Numerous people on Priest Lake have complained about boats leaving the resorts at 2:00 A.M. blasting music from the tower. The south end of the lake has a very shallow section which draws quite a few boats that anchor 50' off of shore and blast music right at people on their docks, beaches and homes. Originally, I didn't believe that this had a shot of getting anywhere because it originally did not specify the noise having to come from an "amplified sound system." Apparently, this was amended at the meeting. These are relatively large bodies of water too. I guess I made the right decision a couple of years ago to get rid of the pair of Wetsound Pro 485s I had on my tower. It will be interesting to see how they enforce this.

Post a note on Facebook stating you've traded the boat for a plane and hire a Lear jet to buzz the houses each weekend night around midnight.....after a month they won't care about the surf boats.

Subscribed. Thanks rgardjr1. Did not see this coming.

As you noted, LPO is ginormous, and largely sparsely populated other than Sandpoint and a few shoreline communities. PC is also low density to say the least.

LOL, technically, they all are in one form or another. Even a simple head unit has an amplifier in order to driver the speakers.

Will be interesting to see enforcement. Odd to see this law. Disappointing. Glad I. Didmt upgrade to 4 speakers.

I just hope these 8' waves can be put into perspective. They do have a 200' law for surfing off shoreline.

I rarely see 5-0. Unlike Moose who attracts them way to easily.

They look at my green boat and think. God help him. 4 kids and they leave me alone.

On the water, you can hear people talking from 200 feet away.

Hard to enforce the nuisance complaints if you don't have a law.

If you say live near a sand bar that is constantly noisy on the weekend and you wish the sheriff to enforce a noise ordinance against those who anchor there you need rules.

Common sense goes a long way to getting along with people but unfortunately homeowners on popular lakes live where other people play.

The way the ordinance was originally written it didn't specify that it was only from amplified boat stereos. That's why I didn't think it had any chance of passing.
