New Engine struts - now rubs engine cover

I installed two new hydraulic lifts for my engine box, but now when I close it, the front rubs on the water pump. If I pull on the handle while closing, I can get it to miss but still pretty annoying. On the plus side, the engine box now stays open when I open it (no more falling on my head or feet) .

Are the hinges just loose enough and the shocks too strong to now push the box back as I close??

Bummer. 2 steps forward, 1 step back.....

Hitting Water Pump

Does your boat have the plastic alignment stops on the floor like those in the picture. If so, don't they hold the cover in a forward position away from the pump?

Could you move the floor panel behind the engine forward a little bit?

Which struts did you buy?

I just replaced them on our 205 and it fits fine.

I've been trying to put struts on my dog house for the past two years, had the exact same problem. The problem is that the back of the box is very flimsy and flexes against the hinges, allowing the front of the box to move back 1-2" when closed. The solution I'm going to try when I get time is to reinforce the back of the box where the hinges are mounted, and change the orientation of the struts so that when the box is closed they are pushing it forward, not back.

I reinforced my floor and the back of dog house as well. This year new quick release hinges... no more pulling floor to remove doghouse

Mind sharing which hinges you went with?
Tired of sticking my arms through the cup holders to pull the hardware.
