Question Will I be at all happy with the slalom wake behind a 2008 XStar?

I currently own a '99 Prostar 205 with the LT1 Engine. The family and I mostly slalom, wakeboard and wake kite a little, and are getting heavily into surfing. Our neighbor has a Moomba Outback which is immensely better than our boat when it comes to creating a nice surf wake. While I know that my boat was never intended for surfing, we can get an okay wake with 750 in the trunk, 400 on the seat, 400 next to the box, 250 up front, and a couple 100+ lb people in the boat. With that said, I have an option to buy a 208 Xstar Anniversary Edition with really low miles for a steal of a price. I would expect this to be a better surf, kite, and wakeboard boat. HOW MUCH AM I GOING TO HATE THE SLALOM WAKE on this boat if I buy it and get rid of my 205?

BTW- I am not a total noob, I know I accidentally typed miles instead of hours when describing the XStar. Thanks.

I think your knees will hate the ski wake behind the Star.

I think that depends on the level of your slalom skiing. If your thinking that you can go run it in a course and be happy then think again. If you think you can ski open water like your in a course think again. If you are a recreational skier who is not worried about gaining angle behind the boat then you might be ok with it. I went out on one thinking I would ski the same as I do behind my slalom tug and thought I was going to die hitting the wake. I went OTF and that is when bad things happen to good people. My suggestion is take it out and ski it and judge for yourself then you will know.

The short answer is no unless you all you want to do is get up. About the same wake as a I/O.

While I absolutely love that boat, it is a pretty much a dedicated wakeboard machine. There have not been many good reviews of the surf wake, much less the slalom wake. Better than the 205 surfing? Probably, but not on par with other boats.

Any chance to try before you buy?

My father in law is an average skier. And it was almost impossible for him to slalom it. the wake is just to big and it doesnt really level out at all even at speeds above 30mph.

try before you buy. I wouldn't ski behind it, but you might have a different view after you try it. Also, if the kids are young, make sure that you like the wake for them at slow speeds.

ski? no
surf? no

xstar is pretty much a wakeboard only machine.

Surf is great.... not pro level but you can have fun with it for sure

Slalom is ok for free skiing but has a notable bump even at 32mph. So no hard cuts!
