Best way to split RCA signal between 3 subwoofer amps from a wetsounds 420

I have a Rockford fosgate pmx5-CAN head unit. Also have a wetsounds 420SQ equalizer. I wan to split the subwoofer signal into 3 different sub amps. The amps are 2 JL audio hd1200/1 powering a wetsounds REVO12xxx each. And then a kicker cxa1200.1 powering a JL audio 12 inch infinite baffle sub. All the amplifiers have an rca signal out feature but I didn’t know if it would be better to split so they are receiving the same level input. I guess it depends how much rca level is lost in the pass through of the amps. I’ll be going from the 420 to the JL amps first to get the best signal to the most powerful subs. Then also if I split should I add an external line driver? Any thoughts? How have others down their multi sub amp signal?

You can split the signal with Y cables. This certainly divides the signal as well as adds lots of extra connections. You can go into one, then out to the 2nd, then out to the 3rd. Most decent amps will pass through without loss, but not guaranteed. Im willing to bet the JL HD amps will pass through a clean (undivided) signal, but not sure about the Kicker CXA. Make it last on the signal path and I think you will be good.

Given that the WS-420 is a line driver, I dont see a need for another driver just for the amp signal. Those amps should be able to compensate for any small loss without issue.

I’ll probably just do what MLA suggested. Surely the HD amps will leave the signal voltage at a good level for amps further down the chain. Another question I have. With the 420 and a Rockford fosgate pmx5 head unit will I put the input level switch to high or low? Low is up to 2V and high is up to 8v. I know low is typically for headunits and high is for speaker level input but with a line driver like the 420 I think it has 5v rms preputs. Although it’s listed at 5v RMS maximum on the website so I don’t know what that really means.

Exclamation JL Audio HD1200/1

You need to go into the 1st sub amplifier’s input, then slave the next sub amp 2 using the RCA line-level output labeled “AUX Out” output. Use 3’ RCAs’ in between sub amp 1 to sub amp 2, and sub amp 2 to sub amp 3.

—WS420 input 15’ to 20’ RCA —> amp 1 HD1200/1 input
Amp 1 AUX output — 3’ RCA —> amp 2 HD1200/1 input
Amp 2 AUX output — 3’ RCA —> amp 3 Kicker input

This will keep the signal path as close as possible to the 5V the Wet Sounds can put out. (Depending on quality of RCAs’ used & length of first RCA).

See picture attached.

Thanks @hydrotunes. I’m going to do exactly that. What do you guys use as quality RCAs? I used stinger 8000 series for everything but that was just from reading internet reviews.

You are most welcome!

For our day to day, we use 4000 series, then 6000 series for the upgrade (directional, shielded, enhanced tip), and on all major builds we use 8000 series. So if you are at 8000 series you cannot go wrong.

O that’s perfect then. All the RCA to and from the the 420 are 17 foot 8000 series. I’ll do a 3ft one between the hd1200/1’s then a 6 foot one between the second hd and the kicker. Just because of its location.

What amps do you guys ideally put on each wetsounds XXX 12?
