Urgent Question- Fuel Pump

How do you keep the fuel from flowing up from return fuel line to the gas tank? I disconnected the return line from the fuel pump and cant get the fuel to stop coming up. Like its siphoning from the fuel tank. 1995 indmar 5.7

Thanks!!
