Beginner to Surfing - Quick Questions

No experience surfing. We slalom and wakeboard. 2000 X5, 400 pounds rear locker, mission delta on the side. That's it

1- Wife's birthday this month, $180 for a Hyperlite Broadcast, is this a decent deal?
2- Am I stupid for buying her a gift we can both use?!?

We have no expectations on surfing, just want to do something more leisurely sports on the lake.

Broadcast, depending on size, is a great beginner board.

The board is the 4'8" (is this an ok size)? She is 5'3" 120lbs (shhhh), and I'm 5'9" 160.

I assume this would work for both of us and I can get my own next summer

I learned on a 4'8" on a small wake and about the same height/weight. My suggestion is to go bigger if you can especially starting out.

If you have to ask if you are dumb for getting a dual gift for HER. Then.....

Ok got to comment as I have some experience. Give her the board. Confess you felt guilty for getting her a gift that you could use as well. Whip out a 2nd very personal gift just for her. She will be distracted by the 2nd gift and not notice you just got yourself a board for her birthday.

(I'm joking... my wife would see right thru this)

Ummm, you must be new at this. Go buy here a b-day gift just for her, and buy "you" a board she just may want to try.

I own one. Great beginner board for our family. We paid $350. My wife got right up and half way through the season decided we needed a bigger boat so she can surf more. We will be buying a couple doomswell boards next

Thanks all, good advice. Iíll get something that sparkles as well. I appreciate the info on the broadcast as well. At least if we like it we can upgrade (boat too).
