In the state of Iowa you have to have the seating capacity on the rear of the boat above the waterline on both sides.

Holy cow what a stupid law. Sort of like the ski sticks they use out west.

That is to funny, when I bought my X9, it had a 9 on the back on each side and it always puzzled me and the boat came from Iowa. Now I know what the 9 represented. Iowa is special, I believe they have the down skier flag law as well...

As far as I know we don’t have to have a skier down flag in Iowa. I boat on carter lake which is partly in Iowa and partly in Nebraska, and is never paroled. We do have the capacity number law along with the requirement of having an observer, even if you have a mirror.

You are right, Iowa does not have the flag law. Maybe I was thinking about snowmobiles? Anyway, I'm happy to now know what that 9 represented. I wonder if they lowered the person capacity of the 06' X9 to account for the ballast? I enjoyed the no spotter law this weekend and it was amazing. For the record, when I had spotters in the boat early in the day, I knew the skier was down before they did...

Iowa

*Vessel capacity number on starboard side 9" forward from transom

*Must have observer in boat to tow anyone

*Only get to use boat a small % of the year because weather blows here in DSM, and even when its nice out everything is flooded to the point that the launch ramps are closed, and or boats cannot be lowered enough to take out of hoists!!!
