D2jp,

Can you give rental info or who you use? I have been renting 2-3 weeks each summer. Sometimes a home but often a condo at Bridgewater Pointe.

Thanks,

Chris

I haven’t been yet, but I’ve been hearing a lot about it! I’ve got an ‘01 Prostar 195, where should I start (it’s a big lake, I hear)?

Bull Run. It's a great water sports cove with a slalom course at the end. GPS coordinates can be found here:

I’ll be up at SML at the end of June for a Family Reunion, staying at Bernard’s Landing. Is that a good area? How far to Bull Run? I’ve never done a slalom course, but would like to try one day!

The course isn't too far from Bernards - head towards the mountains and hang a right when you see marker R8 on your left and B1 in the distance in front of you (Vista Point condos are several stories high and sit on a point behind B1). As you make the right hand turn continue and you'll then see markers B4, then B6 on your right. You'll see Christmas Tree Island ahead and keep that on your right as you proceed. Marker BU1 should be on your left and continue up the channel past BR1 (don't turn at BR1) and keep going until you pass BU5 on your left. As you pass BU5 - just keep going, lots of pasture and undeveloped land in this area. At the very end of the channel/cove sits the ski course. When I've been up there, the water level was low and it's really shallow. I don't have any experience driving a course so I've never pulled anyone through it. I've talked to Smith Mountain Water Ski Club members, nice folks that are on the course most weekend mornings - might want to hit them up for more details. The course itself is plenty deep. The far end is shallow, just drop the rope and leave enough room for set up and you will be fine. Low water a couple years ago I would stand on bottom and it was only waist deep, still skied.
