Boat Tariiffs :(

I get Boat Test .com emails every few days...love watch videos of things I cant have.

The last 2 emails feature articles on the new Boat Tariffs and how they have effected/will effect Boat orders for export from US MFG.

They are a Boating Advocate website, so of course I read with a grain of salt...but still something to read and track. Jobs are Jobs, I always wanted to Build Boats as a kid..

It will impact Canadian Boat dealers big time. 90% of boats come from USA. Some brands like Princecraft are made in Quebec and would be safe.

Its a shame that Trump decided to get into this Tariff pissing match with the world. A lot of people will be pissed everywhere.. including in the USA and abroad.

yah...and many of the pissed/affected are his supporters.
Not sure how I feel about tariffs/wars...

With China , much of it is directed as a result of them stealing our ideas/brands/patents that made items valuable and unique.... so I get that.

Slippery slope

IMHO, The whole thing ***-azz. I can kind of agree with doing stuff w/China. They been stealing our IP for decades now. But penalizing our allies, Canada, Mexico, Europe? Gimme a break. It's just going to hurt us all. For what its worth, that's my $0.02

Im just going to throw my 2 cents at this. Disclaimer: I know very little about this, and as a Canadian we no longer have pennies to just throw around.

While I agree we do need tariffs to level the playing field, I think the way about it is wrong. I think we need 2 major tarrifs to make the playing field level.

1. Environmental tariff. Much of the red tape and the EPA whines about is because we have learned since we were the first to go industrial. I think we need to have an environmental tariff for places that ARE allowed to just dump waste into rivers; Pump toxic fumes into the air, ect. I don't agree with removing the red tape we put up from lessons learned in the past. What we save now by allowing dumping into rivers/oceans, will just cost more later in cleanup.

2. Poverty Tariff. Your making more by moving to a country that pays MUCH less labor costs? IF you don't want the tariff, pay your workers the appropriate wages. If you are expoiting the people, then your product gets the appropriate tarrif.

I still stand by my prediction that 2018 will be a peak year for Boats....the question is will it level off or Fall,
Tariffs may compound probelms and prematurely drop market.

Boats in general, or the wake boat segment?

Maybe boats in general, but I'd predict that double digit growth in the wake segment will continue for at least another 5 years. More and more people are learning about surfing, and with a strong economy the people have money right now.

When labor unions force companies to pay someone 30 bucks an hour to put windshields in a car they force that company to look for other places to build said car.

I think Boats in general...

However , the wake Segment is aproaching the $150k MSRP mark avg for the premium brands.
That is going to rear its head at some point when interest rates go up and the reality of 15yr payments set in.
Its is the main reason my Boats go up for sale as soon as I get them. I'm always wanting a pulse on MY market.
