Thumbs up New Project from Middle Tennessee 1980 Stars and Bars

Ladies and Gents,

New user from Murfreesboro, TN. Finally got around to purchasing a boat I have wanted since I was a kid. A 1980 Stars and Bars in need of some TLC that I desperately would like to give it.

Picked it up a few days ago and I'm excited to dive in with both feet. It needs some work done on the stringers, new floors, steering wheel, and some upholstery work done but apparently it runs and everything works.

I'm sure I will have some questions along the way. I will post photos as progress is made. I plan on dropping it in the water this weekend hopefully to see if it sinks. Would love to know the extent of the problems before I remove the engine to do the stringers.

Fransisco approved.

Congrats....You live in the same town as me.

Stones River Fiberglass is top notch. Pat is a good person to talk about this project. I would haul it there and see what he thinks. He's also very reasonable priced. You might find he can do it quicker and less than what you would expect.

Good to know. Appreciate it. I'm from upstate New York so I don't know much about the boating scene down here. The who what when is really what I'm looking for.

But this is a good start.

I purchased an 81 back in January. I restrung and put new floor in mine in about 8 weekends, was not easy but I'm very happy with the outcome. Only had about $800 in materials. Good luck, your going to have a beautiful boat.

I'm not sure if it's powershot or not. I'm pretty unfamiliar with this platform. I got the boat for a pretty good price and I'm going to try to do as much of the work myself to keep the final cost down.

And what do you mean thief week? Not familiar?

Think it was just a typo. He meant "this week" not "thief week".

Congrats on the boat!!!

That makes more sense, if that's the case I don't think it would be the same boat. I don't think this one has been in the water since super early this season.

And I will get under there and measure the drive shaft tonight to find out if it's powerslot. Doesn't matter to me either way. I don't water ski myself so it doesn't make much difference to me. I could probably count on both hands how many times I was ever at WOT on my last boat, this is just a neat boat to put around in for my use.
