I'm gonna be honest. An Xstar 'without gen 2 or some type of surf system' is probably not the boat you want. Takes a lot to lean and surf . Yes the wake board wave is awesome. But for kids learning to wakeboard it will be very intimidating. My 2 cents i would be looking more for like a x15 or x30.

If your serious take it out. Just run it like you would a normal outing. He wants to surf now she wants to wakeboard Now he wants to kneeboard. One way to find out. Switch from sport to sport

bull****

The only problem with a 2004 is the vinyl is for crap. Same problem with 2005. Crap supplier for those two years. Great boat. Yes, it could be better at surfing (starboard, for example), but it manages just fine. Doesn't have some of the features that came later, but then again, it doesn't have the costly failure of the features that came later.

This is ALL COMPLETELY WRONG INFO

The 2004-2012 xStar's never had any sort of TAB system on them.

Surf setup is pretty easy with a wakeshaper. You can weight it evenly too.

Wakeboarding wake can be world class, but if a beginner you put in NO ballast and you can tow them along at 16mph or so and it will be small and mellow.

Great looking boat and the price point is below what typical xstars are going for with that many hours. Assuming its in great shape (interior too)
