3 Plus 3 Warranty - Your Views

I just got the offer to purchase the Mastercraft 3 plus 3 extended warranty. What are every ones views on this? Have you guys bought it and if so do you think it was a wise move? Seems like a bunch of money, but fixing these things ain't cheap either.

I just got that too. I considered it but recently threw it out. It was something like $1300 for 3 more years. I figured I would not have that amount of repair work in three years.

You will get it when your first year is up with the new boat.

It covers just about everything. That is why I'm torn. I'm not too worried about engine and trans, but it is all the other things that I constantly reading about on this board. It's $1200 for another 3 years.

Engine and trans are warrantied for 3 years anyways but your right about the rest of the boat. I guess the big ones would be gel coat issues and any trailer problems.

It actually adds another 3 years to the engine and trans for a total of 6 years. You can also transfer it if you sell the boat.

Make sure that your dealer will accept the +3 warranty. The local dealer here will not accept it. And they do not have to since it is not from Mastercraft. But on the plus side, any marina can honor it, it does not need to be from MC. When I bought my '05 197 last February, it came with the 3+3 warranty. If I had needed the warranty, the local 'bu dealer would have accepted it.

Now we know why you got the new X-14!

The 3+3 offer is confusing though. It states that my boat already has a 3 year warranty, and that this covers the next 3 years. So I believe that they will not pay for repairs during year 1-3. But most items like vdig, attitude plate, ballast systems, etc, expire at end of year 1. So year 2 & 3 are unprotected, or does 3+3 really protect all 6 years for those type systems? I can't seem to find out yet, maybe someone has experienced claiming since 3+3 states that we already have 3 years on non-engine components that are listed in the policy, but I don't thnk we do.

Contact the dealer that you would like to have perform the warranty work. Alternately any dealer can tell you what it should cover. I bought my used boat from MYMC here on the forum and he told me that the 3+3 was better than the factory warranty. Again keep in mind that any dealer does not have to accept that warranty. Most or many will though. Our local dealer now does accept that warranty I believe. Where in the northeast are you?
