Unhappy Maristar 225 EFI Indmar engine knocking noise

Put the boat in today, started right up, but when I went past about 2000-2500 rpm, there was a knocking noise. I just changed oil, impeller and plugs before putting it in. There is another noise in going into reverse. It went into reverse ok, but unusual noise, different than knocking. Might have some gas in the tank from last year, but put in some new gas to dilute. Any thoughts. Video too large to attach, so in this Dropbox link, you can see engine and listen to sound. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3rndzfwjmu...%20PM.mov?dl=0

how many hours on boat? could be a piece of spring flopping around from damper plate. That usually sounds like gravel spinning around.. does it make the same noise when not underway?

It is 1994, EFI, and has 650 hrs. No sound when below 2000 rpm. The sound is intermittent. Where you able to access my video?
Thanks
Mike

I agree with Mike. From what I can tell from the video it sounds very similar to what my "94 sounded like when the damper plate went.

Does this require a trip to the shop to diagnose and correct? Anything more I can do to confirm before pulling it out of the water again? Is it a big job?

yes - rev it when not under way. you can keep it in the water - if it does not knock when in neutral then most likely a piece of damper plate knocking around.. take off the dog house struts and you will have access to the bell housing.. will help you to isolate where noise coming from... if you are comfortable.. you can put your hand on bell housing.. you will fell the knock when the piece flies around...

requires trans to be removed... change seal while trans is out.

Thanks so much for the help. If it were the damper plate, would you not expect to hear it even below 2000 rpm's?

it depends where the piece of broken spring landed and when it gets to a point to be picked up by the plate and bounce in the housing.

Does it do it it neutral?

No, neutral seems fine with high rpms. Reverse seemed to make a funny and different sounds as well.
Thanks
