Another Oil Change Thread

As the title states - Prob discussed 1000 times...

Specifically a 2013 Ilmor 6.2 liter V-drive

Less than 300 hours over 7 oil changes in her life - 1st, 2nd & 4th completed by the dealer.

On the 3rd, -7th including this year that I have done - I can only get 3.5 quarts out of it, regardless the method other than leaving it overnight to drain I have a mityvac, Jabsco fluid extractor (which is slower, but actually pulls about .5 qts more out! I always warm it up, this year for 20 minutes! Same result, this year, actually after sucking until it was just air, put in 2 fresh qts, & sucked that out as well, still the total is 3.5 qts including what did not drain out of the oil filter - Where the heck is the other Qt? This year I purchased a brass barbed to 3/8" fitting for the drain hose, so no air from the hose to the pump, no difference.

It put 3.5 qts back in, ran it and the dip stick shows full

I have done everything I can think of, jack the boat trailer up so it is leaning toward the drain hose, pulled it into my driveway forward, which is a slope down & left etc. always the same, 3.5 out, 3.5 back in.

So either the dip stick is off & I'm running 1 qt low, or I am leaving 1 qt of old sludge in the tank - lol

Any advise as it is always a long winter thought process of what the heck

If boat is warm and you are using the drain tube / barbed fitting / any extractor - you should be getting 5+ quarts outta her in less than 10 minutes.

Have you the removed the oil filler cap and oil filter as well?

Snowing and 22F here today. SAD!

Does the filter have oil in it? I believe your model has an anti drain back valve right?

same thing happens with my '92 PS. I attach the pump to the drain hose on the bottom of the pan, run it until it's sucking air, only get 3 quarts out. The filter probably holds 1/2 quart. I put 4 quarts in, now it's a little overfull according to the dipstick.

Yes - Filter off, cap open - That would be a cool trick to get 5 Qts out of a 4.5 Qt system

Rob - The filter was about 1/2 to 3/4 full by the time I got it off, this is poured into (accounted for) in my total count of 3.5 Qts.
