She's usually shied away from women's skis because they are too high in the water. She likes a ski that is really planted in the acceleration zone. She finds too many skis just pop out upon heavy acceleration. She likes her old ski (92 Concept and Rocket) because it is (they are) low in the water and like(s) to be ridden on the back.
Then always get a slightly smaller ski.... you may want to jump to a Syndicate, Vapor, D3 X3 -

and don't forget them bindings... Reflex - all the way - that's if you love her - forget going to jared.. just sayin'

The Concept and Rocket were tournament-speed skis. If she likes the way that they ride, I suggest a similar tournament ski. I too generally ride at slower than "recommended" speeds on a "36mph" ski, and enjoy being lower in the water. The wider skis just don't cut it, pun intended.

I have notting to add on the boat battle, however as far as skies go you should look at the Radar Lyric. The couple I ski with the wife has a 3 year old Lyric and she loves it. The new model can be skied at higher speeds. Look at the Radar web site. www.radar.com

You will not be sorry.

My wife has a seriously old ski

Can anybody anecdotally compare the width of an old Connelly Concept to some of these new skis? It seems that new skis have become wide...

Does she use a double boot or a rear toe plate? I have a Concept and a Radar Senate. I'll see if I can snap a picture or measure them.

It looks like the different width between my Concept and Radar Senate C is 3/4" narrower for the Concept. I noticed the Radar boots are set farther back on the ski, slightly.
