97 P205 LT1 Alternator

Going to add stereo system so need to upgrade alternator. Local alternator shop can do a 135 Amp One Wire. Need advice have three wires going to current alternator. Told wires are, power, ground and Energizer . Told when istalling one wire alternator there is no need to install energizer does all agree? Does anyone recommend alternative place to purchase alternator?

Thanks
Tom

I'd have the upgrade installed as long as it is USCG compliant.

The-one-wire will work. The exciter is built-in and the unit should ground itself through the bracket that is mounted to the engine block. A hot lead is all you need.

As for an alternate place, what is the first place you have looked for buying, that would reciprocate an alternate choice?

You only spoke of the upgrade (not a new purchase) from the local-yocal....

My only concern is that the alternator is marine compliant. A regular automotive one produces open sparks that you don't want under an enclosed motor box.
