1989 Prostar190 carburetor

I just spoke with the marina winterizing my boat. They suggested that I may need a new carb due to the new fuel being run in my boat. He suggested that the carb was a 300 Cfm 4 barrel w electric choke. Can anyone verify this? Seems that 300 Cfm is small. I have little experience in this space but some of my gear head friends said while they are limited in their marine carb knowledge they felt at the least it should be a 400 series. Any thoughts? Thanks!

The oe carburetor should be holley 600 cfm. I think this shop doesn't know what their talking about, don't need a new carburetor, especially one thats half the cfm of oe, just b/c of 10% ethanol gasoline.

Thanks. I should add that he said the carb is experiencing "white rust" due to the ethanol and that is why it needs to be replaced or at the least rebuilt. I just had it rebuilt two summers ago. I've probably run 120 gal of fuel through it the past 2 summers. Im all about keeping up on maintenance i just don't want to be taken advantage of here.

I'd fire the marina shop.... what a crock of poo-poo...

White rust is typically on galvanized steel / zinc layer......

Clean it up and live with what you have unless it's at the end of the line...

A new Holley 4160 (600 cfm) never hurt a thing but to chalk it up to the fuel type and half the delivery capacity.... something in the wood pile there..

I think we should cut the marina some slack here. We all know it's not fun making boat payments, and look how many boats a marina generally has. Someone need to pay for all these boats...

If the engine starts and runs good I don't know why it should be replaced.

If it is running fine, and since you had it rebuilt two years ago, I would see no need to do anything with the carb. Have them send you some pics and post them here.

On the other hand, you might consider what your long term plans for your boat are. The carb is 25 years old. If there are real problems with it, and you plan to keep the boat for another 5 years, this may be a good time to go with a new carb.
