MC Gps Question

So I finally had a chance to mess around with the Gps in my new xstar. I'm no expert with this sorta thing but man was I disappointed. It tracks my path but only shows an outline of the US and just whitespace when panning or zooming, no rivers or lakes no matter how much I zoom in. Is there some sort of map overlay I need to install to be able to see detail? Thanks

Did you purchase the maps form the dealer? It's an option you know... Not standard equip.

That looks about useless. Without the chip the GPS screen appears to have detail info (maps). I've been tossing around the idea of buying the chip. I thought it would show the geographic grid of the lake/river and depth info. It would be helpful if others who have this option would post screen shots. My biggest concern with this option is what lakes/rivers are mapped. Based on your picture, none.

How much are these chips/maps? I was never told this was an option. Can they only be gotten from dealer?

I've heard around $800 MSRP from dealer. That could be wrong. I think they are only avaliable through dealer... Again that could be inaccurate.

You just don't have the Navionics maps loaded onto it. Here's the link they are normally $199.99 and you can buy them at Cabella's, Bass Pro and etc.... the reason it doesn't come with it is because it's regionalized and you need to buy the one for your region.

Ahaha that's about as bad as 900 for a set of the new xstar decals. Never gonna happen (the maps that is.)

Has anyone done this with success? I always thought you had to get maps from dealer.
