Adjustment on Trailer Brakes
I hate to add to the plethora of mastercraft trailer brake threads, but I have a question and have not found the answer as of yet. When I tow my X-30 and apply my truck's brakes, the trailer brakes indeed engage, but the trailer really slams into the back of my truck before they engage. Is there a way for me to adjust them so they engage a little quicker? The actuator is made by Reliable. Currently, I have a bolt locking the brakes out, but now that cooler temps are rolling in, I'd like to resolve the issue. I should mentioned, I've checked the brake fluid level and it is full.
Here is a picture of what my trailer looks like: |

#1 - get rid of the reliable actuator... then the brakes need to be bled. If it's slamming there is most likely air in the line and or the brakes are way out of adjustment. Jack up trailer - there should just a bit of drag on drum brakes - use a ratchet strap to push actuator in a bit - it should lock wheel without too many clicks on the strap when you try to turn wheel by hand.

As has already been mentioned, replace the Reliable with a UFP. Assuming brakes are properly bled and adjusted (adjustment shouldn't be required since they are disks), sounds like the shock absorber in the actuator could be shot and not dampening the movement as it should - PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. I was having the same issue with my 06 X30 last fall. Switched out for UFP and problem solved.

My 2008 trailer was doing the exact same thing. My dealer said it was a comon problem and replaced a dampener shock in the actuator. This was back in 2010, so I'm not sure if they can get it any more, but it solved the problem. The trailer brakes still work great to this day.
Check out this link. Scroll down to the parts diagram. Look a t #6. The Reliable part # is SA-001 http://www.reliablepmw.com/downloads...ice_manual.pdf Last edited by gts-20; 10-09-2013 at 02:00 PM. |

Ufp
Check out this thread:
http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/...ad.php?t=47717 I have already been through this scenario and I would bet you have an issue with the dampener; however, I would start with a good brake bleed to see if this (hopefully) resolves the issue. If not, you will have to go with the UFP actuator. As you will note in my thread, the replacement process is very easy. I am more than happy to answer any questions. A couple of tips / notes: The test to see if your system is working is this. Un-plug your trailer lights. Attempt to back your trailer up (preferably a slight incline). If the system locks up, then you have a good system. IF it is jerks and jumps but still locks, it is likely a failing Reliable actuator. |

Ps
...as you will note, I hi-jack the thread towards the end.
