go for it, I did the same 5 years ago with a 3000lb lift and 2600lb PS195
no problems whatsoever
I called the manufacturer and he said they are over engineered about 15-20%
if its a good deal I would not hesitate

Depends on use and where it falls if you lose a cable.....

Mine hangs over a river and if a cable snaps/carriage comes down, I don-t want current to take it away.

Also my 3600lb shoremaster was a pita to crank up as it is geared w a higher ratio than a 4k

Another thing to consider is how you load....we throw all the gear in and get in as it is lowering to the water....3 to 4 skiers and gear and full tank.

If it is not a great price, hold out for a 4k........I bought a 4500 lb lift for my 197....peace of mind

I'm pretty sure diff btw 3000 and 4000 lb SS hoist is the winch, nothin else. 4000 is geared lower.... Neighbor had a 4000 for a Malibu sportster and it took forever to hoist. Lotsa cranks.

I would go with 3600 lb. just don't lift with 4 people in the boat. If you have a 197 and live on the lake, I would guess you are not keeping fuel tank full anyway.

I use 3000 lb SS for my 205 that is similar in weight. I have electric winch motor instead of crank, so no issue there. Pm if you want details. I bought it that way, works great.

New cable is a plus, $130 for leveling cable, much more for winch tube to be rebuilt.

Have a good summer.

97PS 205 on a ShoreStation 36108 here. Removed my wheel and installed a 110v screwdrive wench, no worries and no pain! Included keyless operation too!
