Engine economy

I had a good day on the lake Wednesday. We traveled 28 miles up the lake and 28 miles back. That is also the direct mileage, it doesn't include the backtracking and putting around collecting logs and sticks. We were on the lake for 8.5 hrs. The engine was on for all but about 2 hrs when we were eating. We were slalom skiing for about half of those miles. The other half was just cruising at 30MPH enjoying the view. So 56 miles and 19 gallons of fuel was used over about 6.5-7 hrs of engine time. I am Curious to how this stacks up to other boats and engines. I was impressed. I didn't think we would make it as far as we did.

What do you think? What kind of mileage do you get??!

Cheers!

Good use of fuel 5-6 gallons per hour during water sports is common.

Thats pretty good at 2.7 gph. My boat is about the same, but when you start to add large watersports (heavy inflatables) into the mix my fuel consumption goes anywhere to about 6-7gph.

I average 6 gph for a mixture of cruising, surfing, and wakeboarding in my 6.0L X30.

I'm about the same. I tracked my miles on GPS and fill up at the end of the day and was right around 3 gph. That included skiing, wake boarding and cruising around for the day.

My boat consistently consumes 6-6.5 GPH. Wakeboard speeds between 18 for my daughter and 22-23 for my son and myself, 3-4 people, stock ballast full. Short run to-from the area we start boarding at. I don't let the engine idle that long. The way I look at it is if I have to start the engine a couple of times to re-position it's no worse than changing out riders a couple of times.

I'm getting a pretty consistent 5.5gph use ratio.
