79 Mastercraft 351w oil pump shaft

I received my new distributor today for my 79 S&S. As I pulled the old distributor out I heard the oil pump shaft fall into the pan. What a crappy feeling came over me. I searched the web and found many people dropped the pan, removed the fuel pump and fished for hours with a magnet to retrieve the shaft.
I decided to pull the front timing cover off the engine to gain access. I used a magnet on a stick and fished it next to the crankshaft and withjn two minutes I was able to retrieve the shaft . I am posting this in hopes if anyone else runs into this it might help. I know I got lucky but I will take it !
