Sounds like I need to get off my lazy butt and change that seal. Based on the condition of my boat when I purchased it I'd be surprised if the original owner did a thing to it. Probably never greased the port which tore up the seal.

Final report. After I replaced the o-ring on the center drain plug and replaced the rudder seal and greased it I have had less than a tablespoon of water in the bilge. Before I had a gallon or more. Worth doing if your boat leaks.
