Is this an example of the "dog days of summer"?

Man, my golden retriever is a large lad, and his fur gets stuck in the carpet so bad (it's blue), he's pretty much been relegated to the pontoon. Anybody have any tricks to keeping your boat clean with a large yellow dog? I've been considering a painters drop cloth or something...

My chocolate is the same... he is left at home for this very reason. Also considered a drop cloth or even an old boat cover (once I get a new one). I don't particularly like either option.... poor dog.
