I left BOATUS after they tried to get me to pay for hurricane Sandy. Saw a bunch of posts on other sites with others like me with no claims leaving in droves. Sounds like they've rethought their position of pillaging their low risk, no claims customers.

I had no claims in 10 years and was told my rates would increase $130 this year. Sorry, I boat in inland lakes with the boat stored on a Shorestation or at home during the summer. Winter is heated indoor storage. I'm not paying for someone else's hurricane claim. Ended up with Progressive but will look into Ski Safe next year.

Digging this thread up...

I want to make sure my coverages are proper. Boat is currently insured through Amica (who has my other policies)... But they said they only do it as a curteousy for long standing members who have boats. Which got me to thinking, what happens in an accident??

And... they don't want to cover the cost of the boat - they'll insure it, and the trailer, for $7000. I paid more than that, and it's worth a few bucks more than I paid due to catching up on some deferred maintenance.

Seems like Ski Safe seems to be getting the nod for this one. What are others thoughts and experience?

I just switched to Ski Safe - I had to call them to adjust the trailer coverage as the web site only allows it to be at $5,000.

I saved $150 over my last policy - coverages at $300,000 and $25,000 medical payments, up $15,000 from my last policy. (Sea Horse)

Policy is almost half of the Boat US quote - FYI

Only negative is they require 100% up-front money.

BoatUS had the same exact pricing as ski safe with no layup period, which is what made me change from Ski Safe to Boat US. Granted I don't ski much in March or October, but it did give me a little more peace of mind.
Prior boats - (3) X14's, (3) Prostars, and a Tristar.

All I can say is I currently have seaworthy (Geico) and am currently going through a claim and they are horrible. Claim started 4/12, still waiting on a check. I also found out that while I do have agreed hull value, since mine is not totalled they are taking 60% depreciation for all parts being replaced, so they are only paying 40% of the parts. Stay away from seaworthy.

I have Foremost insurance out of Michigan. Hit a rock with the prop which screwed up the drive shaft, strut, prop, and hull damage. I brought it to the dealer who sent them a quote and within 24 hours of submitting the claim I had a check for the repairs -500 for my deductible (and they took 5% off the value of the prop and shaft since they are considered "wearable parts").

I pay $48 a month so its ~$600 for the year w/ 500k in liability and coverage. May be a little bit more than what everyone is paying for but to have 24 hour turnaround on a claim... I will take it =D

I thought so, but with seaworthy (geico) there is depreciation on the parts and for a 2002 they only replace 40% of new part values. So this repair is costing a whole lot more than my 250 deductible.

Also as I side note I am now getting quotes from ski safe and boat us. I noticed on the ski safe policy the agreed hull value is only valid for the first 2 years of your policy and then it switches to "market value", so anyone with skisafe may want to check their policy.

I suggest using the insurance company recommended by the boat dealership. it might cost you a bit more but the process during a claim is super smooth. At least in my case. I like to save money like the next guy..If you never have a claim it doesn't matter but if/when that time comes the dealer's relationship with the insurance company makes a huge difference.
