Norris Lake

We are spending a week at Norris Lake in July. This will be our first time at Norris. We rented a house in the Deerfield Village area. Any helpful information you could share with me would be appreciated. Is there a slalom course, anything to watch out for or to be sure to see ? What is there to see and do on a rainy day ?

Thanks for your help.

John

Norris is the cleanest lake in the state, and it is beautiful. I was just there last week and skied every morning. The course is not up this year for some reason (at least the one near big creek was not), but there are lots of great ski coves and excellent still water in the morning. The lake has several restaurants, some with live music on weekends, and be aware that most marinas close around 7pm during the week, so get your gas early for the next morning. I'd cruise to the dam one day, do lunch at a marina one day, and maybe catch some live music one night if you can. It's a super nice lake, with deep channels and gorgeous water.

It only rained for about an hour on us last week, and it's normal for this time of year that it will storm in the heat of the day and then clear back up to be nice again. Hopefully your weather will be nice too. I have stayed in Deerfield, and it's a great part of the lake. More information can be found via the links below, and have a great trip!

Watch out for the snakes ... Venomous snake have taken hundreds so far this year ... And the bugs ... Can literally fly off with small children

Other than than it beautiful ... Just don't tell anyone

Go to Sequoyah Friday night for wings and make sure you try Jim's atomic sauce ... Think of it a nasal napalm! If you want to take a cruise to the lower side of the lake (southeast side near the 33 bridge) go to Bubba's BBQ maybe on a Saturday ... It's a drive but you see a beautiful part of the lake ... Probably a 45-60 minute drive from Deerfield. If you want to come over to my side of the lake (Big Creek) stop by for a beer with me.

No slalom courses your way, but there is one near Sequoyah.

Enjoy ... Just don't tell anyone ... Tell them you went to Cumberland

The last time I was on Norris was in June of 2011 and it was really crowded. There wasn't a place to ski that wasn't chopped up. I wouldn't go there if I were you. I would go to Cumberland or Dale Hollow instead.

Cumberland has too many logs with the water rising up. Most if not all of them are submerged about 6" under the water, so you can't see them. You have to row your boat everywhere.

Dale Hollow is a cess pool and rumored to have gators. Our houseboat is nasty from all of the algae growth..

If not too late, check into getting a floating cottage - we did that last September and loved being out on the water.

the place with all the snake ... they actually like to live on top of the styrofoam!

Whitman Hollow marina rents them ... think of a small house on floats

hope you enjoy our lake ... just tell everyone it sucked and you are going to cumberland next year!
