351 wouldn't start, no fire- easy fix

My '90 TriStar, 351, old school ignition, would only crank, would not fire.

I replaced coil- no change. Cleaned up rotor button, distributor and points- no change.

I replaced the points (set at .018) and condensor and it fired right up.

It all had like a white dust all over so I'm guessing humidity got to it? I dunno.

But man is my wife happy now!

When I used to run with points (before converting ignitions to electronic) I carried a piece of sandpaper with me for roughing up the glazed contacts when nothing else was available.....Used the wife's fingernail file a time or two.....

Convert when you can... good money spent....

$0.02

Yeesh!

People and the points hate!

The only problem with points is that you really should clean them as part of your yearly ritual, I usually have a points file around since my motorcycle has them, the boat has them, the truck has them.

I get years out of a set of points, but the distributor needs to be opened up and the points set. When you own an old BMW motorcycle setting points and checking valve clearance is a yearly deal, the boat is darned near bullet proof in comparison.

It'll only go pertronix if I install the perfect pass and need to.
