I live in Western Michigan and the local shop told me that $3500 was the market prices for the area. It sounds like me they are a little whack compared to market prices around the nation.
The local shops in Cincinnati were quoting me between $3500 and $6000. Seriously, $6k! Via youship.com and Viper, I was able to ship my boat to TN, get new carpet and a custom vinyl design done for less than $3k total. Well worth the hassle of coordinating to not only save money but to get top quality work from guys that previously worked at MC.

Tech Schools

Look for a technical school or a prison with one. I have one near my home that does all kinds of restoration auto work. Just so happens they have an upholstery shop and they do fantastic work for materials plus 20% or so. Only down side is the wait is a little long and when they call you to do the work they want it right then or they move to the next customer.
