Tower Speakers and New Amp

Really would appreciate some help from all of you stereo veterans out there. Boat is an 09 X-15. Came factory with 2 speakers on the tower, but I would like a little more. Purchased 2 factory cans with speakers here. David at Earmark has advised to add a JL MHD 750/1 for the tower speakers. The speakers that were in the cans I bought were JL MC-7CWXT5.4. I cannot find much information about these anywhere. I originally assumed these were MX770's, so I am unsure if they can handle the 4 ohms with 187.5 watts that each tower speaker will see with this new amp. I have not checked the 2 speakers on the tower to see what they are, but they must be at least equivalent JL's.

Anyone?? and Thanks - Tim

Tim,
An MX 7.7" won't handle that type of power. An M 7.7" will, especially in the highpass mode. The MX770 has been a more recent addition to the line. Send an email to JL Audio to confirm that the MC OEM 7.7" product is the build equivalent of a M770. It may take them a couple of days to respond but you'll have your answer. JL Audio has a dedicated person who handles all OEM business. It shouldn't be hard to verify.

David

Do you know anything about the mc-7CWXT5.4? I'll check my existing ones out also.

Tim,
One would assume that all JL Audio 7.7s from that era are the same M770 product and that the model difference just relates to a different channel of distribution. But as indicated above, if you really want to be 100% positive, then send JL Audio the email.

Yes JL confirmed these are M770 equivalent so good to go. If you have pods with lights I would suggest a visit to Earmark's website as David has made many references to the need for sealing the air space behind the speakers to really make them work.
