I would suggest you measure your chest and waist and go with their sizing chart on their website. Do not go with sizing from other brands of vest. When I wore a L in an O'Neill, I was an XL in Eagle.

I got in the attic and checked my former vest, also O'neil. It is indeed large as I thought. The cut is very similar but a good 1 1/2 inches shorter. I'm in the same position as Eastie, a few lost winter pounds will do me good. I think I'll keep it and wear a rash guard to hide my "muffin top".
