Bimini placement

Hey MC lovers, I got a bimini top for free for my 95 Maristar v-drive. The factory mounts for the bimini are installed on the gunwales right next to the windshield. The top unfortunately is a bit too narrow to fit in the factory mounts, so I am contemplating relocating the mounts to the inside of the windshield.

I've never seen a bimini top be mounted this way, but I can't think of any reason not to have the mounts be on the gunwales inside the windshield. Any thoughts? Thanks... Summer can't get here soon enough!
