Part # is ADR0334. Of course everything turns into more of a job....The main long bolt that goes into the block doesn't fit through the hole on the alternator. But, the guy at the auto electric shop, who was trying to sell me a Marine Prestolite for $250 was gonna have to drill out the hole on that one to make it work as well, so I am going to take it down tomorrow and have them do it to this one....after that it should mount right up.....will keep ya posted. Why wouldn't they volt reg work with it? I didn't consider that, but assumed it would?

It may, but I've never upgraded to a higher output alternator, so I wasn't sure.

the prestolite (motorola) alternators that came on the Indmar had internal voltage regulators, if it's a PCM they had external regulators.

Finally installed
Well, here it is, installed. It bolted right up, everything fit the Indmar/Ford 351W brackets. I took it down to my local auto electrical shop again to have the bolt hole drilled out, but he simply swapped the outer case with one he had on the shelf with the bigger hole attached, no cost.....Boat is still Winterized, so I haven't fired it up, but with a new belt, everything is lined up good and tight. On to my next challenge....

Tristarboarder,
I just noticed in your picture that you're missing the spacer that goes on the bolt in between the top alternator lug and the engine cylinder head. You can see where the old spacer used to be on the front of the cylinder head because the black paint is missing around that top bolt where it screws into the head. That missing spacer might allow your alternator to drift slightly forward and aft during operation and cause your alignment to change, belt squeal, etc. Might be something you want to check into before the season starts. |
