It could. It just wouldnt be the best choice. Plenty of power, big brakes, big tires. Heres a guy from AUS doing his best to overload his M3's towing ability. Granted this is the euro version with 321hp, but still a little over the top.

I knew a guy in high school with a modded Mustang 5.0 (about 420 hp), who stupidly pulled his parents I/O with it. Boat bounced that car all over the place. Late 80s suspension and brakes.
