Looking at used X30 have some questions

Its a decent all around hull. adding a trim plate really helps. we surf with ours. its not going to win any contests, but its ok. you'll be happier getting rid of the hard tanks and adding bigger bags. we currently run 750's in each locker and i'm planning to put 1100s in there for this season. Thats not really for the wakeboard wake but for the surf wakes. i'm also in the process of redoing the interior. the vinyl gets a bad rap, buts its not really that hard to fix.

on my upgrade wish list are a fresh air exhaust and an updated rudder.

As nickespi says, look at the interior..I have an 04 X30, the only problem with the interior I found is the material mounted around the throttle area. The bolts holding it to the fiberglass tend to get loose and thus the whole panels falls off..Check and double check all the trim. For piece of mind on the motor, just get it check by your authorized MC dealer...

What engine does it have?
New interior will run $3k +. If only some vinyl is cracking, the rest is shortly to follow. Sucks that a 200hr boat needs new skins, but MC cheeped out from like 01 to 04?
If it has 30hrs on the new engine, everything should be working correctly.
It is definately not an adder for a new engine because a 200hr engine is still new.
Make sure ballast tanks didn't crack, that IS a big deal if it's the center tank (assume it's not removable without splitting the hull/deck like most). That said, the balalst tanks in MC's don't add much useful weight. The center tank is only good as a makeshift trim tab (keeps the nose down a bit).
Like others said, try to find someone to give it a once over before making the trip.
Other things, for $28k and needing new interior I'd expect it to be loaded. PP, bangin' stereo, heater, etc.
FWIW, the early 2000's vinyl is the only real achilles heel of any of the MC boats save for the new(er) Vdig/BIG issues. Vinyl is easy to replace, just not cheap.

there is a big difference between the 01-05 X30's and the 06-11 X30's. The 06+ is a much more modern hull. The first X30 is basically the same hull that appeared in the 98 VRS 230. If I had a choice and the money difference wasn't too great, I'd go for the 06+ over the 05 and under hull. Having said that, we've been very happy with our 02 X30. The only thing it may do better than the newer hull is ski. The 06 is more of a wake/surf boat than its predecessor.
