We usually use 10' lines, but have 15'-ers that come in handy every now and then - usually when tying up with other boats when floating.

That all depends what you are tying up too and where cleats are on boat and dock. All I have ever used is the 15 foot lengths... http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...1&merchID=4006

I have a set of short lines to tie up for short periods at a marina or the ramp area.
I then have a set of long lines (25ft x 4) that I use during our annual vacation week where we have a slip. I use the spring line method of securing the boat this way it does not rub against the dock since it will be there for a long period of time and the no-wake zone is not always that well observed. Hence the need for the long lines. I like having the short lines as well because they are easier to handle (less knots) for the typical usage. |

Craigslist ad for MN made dock line considerably cheaper than Overtons. I have not used these guys yet, but will be buying from them this spring. Shipping is reasonable.

I have always been told that your dock lines should be the length of your boat or slightly longer.

I bought a set lines from them last year, VERY pleased! He'll custom make your ropes just about any way you want them, and the pricing is terrific. Lines have held up really well so far.

Mine are 15' 1/2". If I had to do it again, I would probably get 3/8" lines. The 1/2" are a little big.
I got mine off ebay for $16 each. Those prices look much better.
