Crank Position Sensor used on '05 XStar?

I've just installed a new engine on my 2005 XStar (5.7 ltr Indmar 350 MCX engine), but I can't seem to find a connector that goes to the Crank Position Sensor (behind the harmonic balancer). But reading through some stuff online it might be that my boat doesn't use it. I have the older type distributor, with the HT leads coming straight out the top (as opposed to 90 degrees), I think this means I have mechanical ignition, as opposed to electric.

This has got me thinking... how does the engine know when to activate each fuel injector (ie charge the cylinder with fuel(?

Anyone have any thoughts?
