I couldn't agree more with what shirlz72 said above. A big wake is just more fun. Show all the videos of Byerly behind an old O/B you want, yes they are amazing and he is uber talented etc... but the whole reason why us non pro's ride is for the fun of it and the feeling.
I would guess it's similar to skiing behind a pure slalom boat like a 197 or an behind an X-star. Yes you can ski behind both so who "needs" a 197. And I'm sure the pro's would be better on a star than the weekend warriors are behind a 197, but anyone can agree its more fun behind a 197 with a tiny wake.

Given that none of us "need" what these new boats can do, I don't blame the OP for "wanting" a boat that can throw an enormous wake if he is going to drop that kind of dough.
