No prep work at all.....just sprayed it with a can anywhere I could hit it. This is not a long term solution but it cleaned it up a bit for now. I asked the Lowes guy what was a good paint that had some rust on it and he recommended the one I used in the thread.

Those Marathons were probably made before the quality issues started. Still, 14 years is a heck of a long time. How much tread is left? How do the sidewalls look? Was this trailer garaged?

I know. Trailer was always garaged by PO. Tires look perfect. Side walls great, tread still looks new. Ite kills me to replace what appear to be perfect tires, but with all the bad press on TT for the Marathons, and the 5 year rule of thumb, I am still planning on replacing. Funny, my parked outside daily driver with 5 year old Michelins with 40K on them look terrible on the sidewall. Cracking everywhere.

The sun really works over the tires. That's why the RV guys all have tire covers since they seldom wear out the tread on their tires. A guy should really do that for any trailer which sits outside.

I didn't even think of using tire covers to protect against UV damage. On the list! Thanks.

We should switch to keg to get a volume discount...but then we may not get any work done...and deep water slalom and barefoot might get tough..
