As you can see i am taking many ideas from your pictures. I am going with a center removable cushion exposing a carpet entry step. I purchased some Starboard for the next layer and cushion bottoms. More pictures to follow. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Instead of carpet for the center step, maybe look at a Sea-Deck like product. That stuff is made for water, it is non skid, and feels good on the feet.
