My buddy had never seen one either. I guess it's to avoid oil being sloshed around with all the vibration and bumps that a boat takes.

So i had some extra carpet left over after doing the rear compartments and was thinking about redoing the main visible areas in the boat. Does anyone have a link for removing the floor around the gas tank? I want to see just how hard of a job this may be.

I thought I would post some update pictures. I want to thank you guys for all your input and especially BrianM for helping me pick out the right products to go with since this was my first try at oxidation removal.

Here are the after photos. It took a long time but it was well worth it. Only negative is I lost the Mastercraft sticker on the back because I was trying to get down to previous owner's decal and remove any trace of it. I'll try and get some better pics once the sun actually comes out.

3M super duty rubbing compound and a wool pad on a rotary polisher. I was a little nervous that I would burn through the gelcoat pretty easily with the rotary, but I have to say that it was harder to cut than i thought. I just kept the moving the rotary around and made several passes.
Followed it up with 3M finesse it, but really all the cutting was done and this just seemed to remove any small scratches that may have been left from the wool pad. |

What a huge difference. A lot of work but the results are well worth the effort.
