84 ss trailer leaf spring

Quick question fellas. I have an 84 ss with the factory single axle trailer. This past spring I installed new tires the same size as recomended. After taking a few trips I noticed the outside wall was being rubbed by the fiberglass fenders. I'm guessing the spring has weakend and when I hit bumps its rubbing. Where can I find replacement springs? Thanks, matt

make sure you get a good measurement from the eye to the center bolt not from eye to eye it is not as accurate

I got a pair at Northern Tool....they were about an inch shorter that the stock springs so when l installed them it actually raised up the frame of the trailer over an inch giving me more room from scraping my prop guard pulling out of my driveway. l believe they were about 40 bucks or so for the pair....one quick note...make sure you soak the bolts with some lube prior to trying to remove them as this was the most time consuming part of the job...guess l can't complain too much as they were in there for almost 22 years.

I live near Fort Worth Texas and a place called Champion Spring made me a set (I originally took my old one to them). They were familiar with inboard trailers. They made the springs the same, but added more arc. The result was higher ground clearance which is what I wanted.

Be careful> A shorter spring will make the boat sit higher but also many times shortening the spring can cause the shackle to end up being positioned directly under the frame bolt.

The shackle is meant to be leaning towards the back of the trailer. If the shackle does not angle towards the back of the trailer the spring can not release the tension properly and you end up with a trailer that has all of the energy being transferred right back to where it came from and the result is a trailer that bounces more than it should

A shorter length leaf spring will also limit vertical suspension travel, for the good or for the bad, depending upon your situation.
