I can almost guarantee it was because the window was open. Earlier this year I was towing mine on interstate and had both the plugs out, plus a few of the carpeted panels inside had been removed. After driving a few miles, I noticed wind really pushing up on the sundeck hard and my first thought was "did removing the plug or the panels really allow that much air into the bilge so as to cause huge drafts in the engine compartment?" Anyway, after hopping out and noticing the window was open I decided to shut it and see what that would do. Problem solved. I was amazed at how much wind the little window blocked.

FYI, I tow mine without a cover all the time.

Damn window....luckily I grew up in a body shop so the repair shouldn't be too bad, plus now I can install a hydraulic actuator to auto lift the hatch...

Yeah, I have some gelcoat repair to do in the same spot as you do now. I think the PO might have let the latch go up too far....which leads to my next comment. You might want to rethink the hydraulic actuator. I actually wish mine were manual as it takes some time to lift mine up and down and I think I'm just on borrowed time for the actuator going out. Do you have a 3 piece sundeck, 1 piece, or something different?

Yours wasn't hydraulic? Mine is. I would have figured yours would be too. Was it at one time? That plus the window probably why it happened. I tow mine without the cover and never worried about this.

Just the one piece....it had the struts but not automatic.

I second rethinking the hydraulic actuator. It was really cool the first 2 times using it... a PITA ever since.
