Truck Fuel Mileage

I purchased my '09 King Ranch F150 a year ago with 30k miles on it and I have the 5.4L engine in it. 4X4 and all of the KR goodies.

Ok so I added the K&N air filter element to it over the weekend and instantly picked up 2 mpg.

I went up to 18.2 mpg and most of my driving is on the highway. I usually drive at least 35,000 miles per year so everything counts.

Does anyone know what kind of computer programer tuner would work the best. I know how to use the tuners and how they work but I have been away from the auto industry for 10 years now and have not kept up with who has the newest, latest, greatest, programers now.

Has anyone used a programer on the 5.4 and what was the outcome. I am interested if the gains are worth buying a programer. Loaded down with boat gain vs unloaded gains.

Back when I was in the Mustang game, Superchips and Diablo tuners were what were popular. That was 5 years ago or so at this point, but I know they have tuners for the F150s.

I would die to get 18 mpg, on my 2006 5.4 Lariat 4x4, I get 12 mixed driving, mods are SLP blackwing cai and a magnaflow cat back, it made absolutely no difference. I am considering the edge evo.

Diablo Programmer. Had an 04 Dmax CC with an Edge Juice Programmer, saw a consistant 24.5 mpg. My cousin had the same '04 Dmax CC with a Diablo Predator, K&N and Airraid and he was getting 27. Too bad you have to cough up an extra 5K for a diesel to get that kind of mileage. I wouldn't worry about the mileage too much 5k will buy a lot of gas!

Still got 17.7 mpg and I ran 85mph most of the way there for 45 miles
