Lake Austin
Anyone been on Lake Austin the past few weeks? Is the Hydrilla getting any worse out there? It was quite thick in several spots over Memorial Day weekend and had to stop several times to pull it off my boat's lower unit.
Thanks, Mike |

I have not experienced it on Lake Austin, but I have had to deal with it before. It gets caught in the prop and requires regular cleaning of the sea strainer. Hard to see and, thus, hard to avoid when it's there.

I was just talking to my Mom about coming to Austin next weekend. They live on Lake Austin, and she was saying that there has been some kind of an algee bloom on the lake. She said the water is stained green and it smells like sewage.
Does anyone know anything about this? |

Just got off Lake Austin, thick hydrilla downstream to Big View Drive / River Place, funky algae smell across from Emma Long Park, all true. On a positive note, georgeous weather, nice sunset, a comfy 80 some degrees water temp and learning to wakeboard is still awesome despite diving under the boat to pull hydrilla from the prop!

Don't they drain the lake to get rid of that crap?

I am out on fri mornings at 6 and one day on the weekends. It's worse than prior years but not too bad. Worst part is river place to city park. Rest from skis shores to hula hut is clear. I have not noticed a smell. There is a lot of debris floating this week cuz of all the recent rain. It frees stuff from the banks.
We cruised entire lake end to end sun. Didn't have a prob with hydrilla. I think they have cut some down in recent weeks. Swimming is a little odd north of city park since it grows up to about two feet from the surface. I have a little boat though. A 205, so a bigger boat may be a different experience. |

Maybe those Grass Carp are munching it up. Looks like Lake Georgetown for me this weekend as Saturday morning is out. Afternoons on Lake Austin are usually too rough for my boat.
