Why's my teak look so bad already?

I spent a couple weeks last fall redoing my teak as per the attached guide. I used this oil: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...4#.T--Lx5gUH0s

I did about 6 coats and then put a coat of thompson water seal on top, though it pretty much beaded up on the teak since it had 6 coats o oil.

Now, halfway through the season and the teak looks like it did at the end of last year - all gray! What happened? is that not the right kind of teak oil?

Put on 25 hours so far this year and the boat sits on a covered lift, though the platform probably gets some decent sun.

The key is to let it dry between coats, several days. Sand and move on to the next coat. Skip the Thompson's.

Direct sunlight is a killer mine did the same thing year before last so when I got a new cover I made sure it would cover the platform.

Well you used the wrong product to follow #1's process. He uses teak sealer, the one in the white bottle.

See this thread http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/...highlight=teak
for an alternative to #1's method which is way too laborious and results in an extremely slippery platform. Tommy's method is to mix 80% boiled linseed oil with 20% mineral spirits.

I started with TMC1's method and my platform looked great. But it was slippery as hell and would scratch very easily. So I waited for it to wear off a bit then sanded it down to bare teak again. Used the linseed oil mix and it looks great. Did it yesterday in fact.

First GET THAT THOMPSON OFF! It's a wax base not good for a wood that needs to breath then use a good teak oil . about every 6 weeks or so i do a little touch up.

Strip it clean and throw some Sikkens on there. I hate redoing my teak. This product lasts me 2 -3 seasons and looks brand new with zero maintainance. Give it a good cleaning, put the Sikkens on there let it dry. Put a second coat with their silica grip they offer and it will give you traction at no cost of scratching anything. Follow it up with 3rd coat. I get 2 solid seasons on the 3rd it starts to wear. No oiling or maintainance except a stripping every 3 seasons for me.
